Ensuring you have in place a power of attorney can provide you with peace of mind that someone you trust is in charge of your affairs.
If you are aged 18 or older and have the mental ability to make financial, property and medical decisions for yourself, you can arrange for someone else to make these decisions for you in the future. This legal authority is called "lasting power of attorney" (LPA).
There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney (PoA):
-
property and financial affairs; and
-
health and welfare.
If you need both options, you will need to submit two applications and we will be happy to handle the application(s) for you.
The PoAs need to be registered, in order for them to come into force. It takes between 8 and 10 weeks to register an LPA if there are no mistakes in the application.
Thereafter, there is a 6-week notice period for any objections to be raised.
Once the power of attorney has been registered, the original document will be returned to you.
